Babushkas
I found this babushka page a while ago and essentially duplicated it, but added my own flare. I'm quite pleased about how it turned out, however, there was a bit of a snare that turned into a learning experience for the rest of the pages. By the way, I did create a boy version of this page, which, consequently, I like more (it features woodland creatures), but I am not going to post it until next week.
Materials Needed:
* Fabric (remember to prewash all fabrics)
* Felt for the faces and inside the medium and small
* Various ribbons for adornment
* Embroidery floss and needle
* Steam a Seam
* 9"x9" of reinforcement and some for the medium and small
* Pattern, remember to UNCHECK the fit to page box
Pocket:
* Cut the pocket from fabrics for the Big and the Medium
*Attach any adornment to the front of the pocket
* With right sides together, sew along the top of the pocket
* Understitch the inside of the pocket
* Iron the pocket
* Fabric (remember to prewash all fabrics)
* Felt for the faces and inside the medium and small
* Various ribbons for adornment
* Embroidery floss and needle
* Steam a Seam
* 9"x9" of reinforcement and some for the medium and small
* Pattern, remember to UNCHECK the fit to page box
Pocket:
* Cut the pocket from fabrics for the Big and the Medium
*Attach any adornment to the front of the pocket
* With right sides together, sew along the top of the pocket
* Understitch the inside of the pocket
* Iron the pocket
Big Babushka:
* Cut 1 Big and and 1 Big Belly from the fabric and steam a seam
* Using the template, position Big and iron to page
* Position Belly on Big, iron, and using a satin stitch, attach to the page and reinforcement
* Position and pin Big pocket to Big and satin stitch Big and pocket to page
* Cut Big face from felt (cut an extra if it is too see-through) and embroider face and hair
* Position and satin stitch face to Big and page
Medium Babushka:
* Cut 1 Medium from front fabric and reinforcement and 2 from felt
* Cut 1 Medium Belly from back fabric and steam a seam
* Cut 1 face from felt and steam a seam
* Embroider face and hair
* Position face and belly on Medium and iron on
* Stack front fabric Medium on top of one felt and the reinforcement Medium
* Satin stitch face and belly to fabric, felt and reinforcement
* With the wrong side up, place back fabric on table, then position remaining felt Medium
* Stack the Medium on top of that then position the Medium Pocket over all pieces and pin through all
* Satin stitch through all layers to back fabric
* Cut out Medium from back fabric
(Originally, I made the Small first and cut the Small from the back fabric. As I was sewing all of the layers together I missed a bit of the back and had to go back over that area a few times)
* Cut 1 Big and and 1 Big Belly from the fabric and steam a seam
* Using the template, position Big and iron to page
* Position Belly on Big, iron, and using a satin stitch, attach to the page and reinforcement
* Position and pin Big pocket to Big and satin stitch Big and pocket to page
* Cut Big face from felt (cut an extra if it is too see-through) and embroider face and hair
* Position and satin stitch face to Big and page
