Basket of Sheets

Last year, I used an old sheet to make a doily rug for my daughter's room. In an effort to use up the left over fabric as well as some yarn that isn't too soft, I started making these little containers. The inspiration for this project came from a "recipe" for a crochet rug using t-shirts. Today's post shares the technique, but doesn't necessarily provide a pattern.

Materials:
1 Sheet cut into 1.5" - 2" strips (any size sheet, just depends on how big you want your container to be)
Crochet Hook (I used a size I)
Worsted weight yarn (although you could probably use any weight)

For this project, I didn't follow a pattern specifically, however if you would like to follow a pattern, I have one for a Quick Little Bowl that would be easy to adapt. Also, I found it helpful to cut the ends of the sheet strips into a point.

Directions:
Begin by tying a simple knot at the end of one sheet strip, then tuck the end into the knot. Make a slip knot on your crochet hook with the yarn. Insert your hook into the center of the knot and, near the long end of the sheet, begin single crocheting around the knot. Once you get around the knot, you will begin crocheting into the single crochets you just made.

As mentioned above, once you reach the end of the knot, you will begin crocheting into the single crochets you made in the knot. Use a pin or something to mark the beginning of your rounds, then, just like with granny squares and doilies, you will make increases every row to create a flat circle until you are ready to make the sides, then you will stop making increases and crochet up the sides. When you get to about 2" from the end of your sheet strip, you can either continue crocheting until the end and bind off or you can overlap another sheet strip and continue crocheting.
