Tales of a Quiet Book, Babushkas - UPDATED

The construction of this page hasn't had any issues, the update here is just the pictures. They needed some touching up. Originally, I found this babushka page  when looking for inspiration and essentially duplicated it, but added my own flare. I'm quite pleased about how it turned out, however, there was a bit of a snare that turned into a learning experience for the rest of the pages. By the way, I did create a boy version of this page that features woodland creatures.

Materials Needed:
* Fabric (remember to prewash all fabrics)
* Felt for the faces and inside the medium and small
* Various ribbons for adornment
* Embroidery floss and needle
* Steam a Seam
* 9"x9" of reinforcement  and some for the medium and small
* Pattern, remember to UNCHECK the fit to page box

Faces:
*Cut the head out of flesh colored felt. If it is see through, cut out a second one.
*Embroider the face onto the felt. Here is a tutorial for how to embroider onto felt. I used a back stitch to create the face and filled the eyes and lips with an embroidery satin stitch. For the hair, I did a tight chain stitch.

Pockets:
* Cut the pocket from fabrics for the Big and the Medium
*Attach any adornment to the front of the pocket
* With right sides together, sew along the top of the pocket
* Understitch the inside of the pocket
* Iron the pocket

Big Babushka:
* Cut 1 Big and 1 Big Belly from the fabric and steam a seam
* Using the template, position Big and iron to page
* Position Belly on Big, iron, and using a satin stitch, attach to the page and reinforcement
* Position and pin Big pocket to Big and satin stitch Big and pocket to page
* Cut Big face from steam a seam, then position and satin stitch face to Big and page

Medium Babushka:
* Cut 1 Medium from front fabric and reinforcement and 2 from felt
* Cut 1 Medium Belly from back fabric and steam a seam
* Cut 1 face from steam a seam
* Position face and belly on Medium and iron on
* Stack front fabric Medium on top of one felt and the reinforcement Medium
* Satin stitch face and belly to fabric, felt and reinforcement
* With the wrong side up, place back fabric on table, then position remaining felt Medium
* Stack the Medium on top of that then position the Medium Pocket over all pieces and pin through all
* Satin stitch through all layers to back fabric
* Cut out Medium from back fabric

(Originally, I made the Small first and cut the Small from the back fabric before satin stitching. As I was sewing all of the layers together I missed a bit of the back and had to go back over that area a few times)

Small Babushka:
* Cut 1 Small from front fabric and reinforcement and 2 from felt
* Cut 1 Small Belly from back fabric and steam a seam
* Cut 1 face from steam a seam
* Position face and belly on Small and iron on
* Stack front fabric Small on top of one felt and the reinforcement Small
* Satin stitch face and belly to fabric, felt and reinforcement
* With the wrong side up, place back fabric on table, then position remaining felt Small, then stack the sewn Small on top of that and pin through all layers
* Satin stitch through all layers to back fabric
* Cut out Small from back fabric

All that is left is to sew a 1 1/2" border onto the page.

Thank you for posting this page and the pattern. I am making Quiet Book pages for my granddaughter's book, and since I collect Matreshka Dolls, I wanted to make a page of the nesting dolls. This is so very helpful. I really appreciate it!
