About a month ago, my daughter and I were video chatting with my sister and she showed us a picture of a girl in a froofy strawberry costume that made my daughter squeal. Of course, it had to happen with a few changes so that the dress could also work as a Christmas dress. Originally, I had planned on writing up a tutorial, however, I hit a few bumps in the road and ended up improvising some of the process, so I will do the next best thing. I combined some tutorials to create the ensemble and I will redirect you to those sites. By the way, I'm guessing that this dress doesn't translate well to a strawberry, but, like I mentioned before, I am planning on using the dress for Christmas too. Perhaps adding a strawberry trick or treat bag will help. Plus, she is 3 and just happy to be in a poufy dress.... I drafted my own pattern for this dress. If you have never done that before, try it! Shwin & Shwin has awesome tutorials for how to sew and draft patterns. To construct the skirt, I used a tutorial for an Easter Skirt over at The Crafty Cupboard, which is 2 yards of 108" tulle that I folded in half length wise and cut to make 4 layers. I made the bow with direction from a tutorial for an Anime Style Bow by LadySasa1000. It is nice and stiff so it won't flop forward. I tacked one side to the dress and a put a large eye/hook on the other side. For the crown I used two sheets of felt, some vintage lace and I made a felt flower. I followed the basic method in a tutorial by Hello Bee for felt crowns. The flower is made up of two felt flowers. The middle section is from Useful DIY and the white portion is an upside down version a flower on Living the Swell Life. I actually attached this flower to an alligator clip so that it can be removed come Christmas time. Well. There ya have it. Now you can make something similar.
